KILIMANJARO MACHAME ROUTE
Trip Summary: 6 days on the Mountain
Scheduled dates: Offer daily departure on Machame route to individuals, small and large groups except in April and May.
This is the second most popular route, and is among the most beautiful route to Kilimanjaro. The different kinds of vegetation found along the route make it the most sceneric route. For a slightly more technical climb on Kilimanjaro, one can conquer Uhuru peak from Arrow Glacier camp, but a less challenging route can be taken from Barranco hut. With a gradual ascend through the forest you emerge to see wide views of the moorland on Shira plateau, Kibo and Western Breach
DAY:1
Arrive at Kilimanajaro International Hotel /Nairobi transferred to Hotel in Arusha
DAY:2 MACHAME
Depart Arusha in the comfort of one of our 4x4 Vehicles for Machame Gate. After the Park fees have been paid, you will enter into the cover of the natural rain forest, which surrounds the lower reaches of Kilimanjaro. This part of the walk is very gradual with great photo opportunities as the suns rays filter through the dense canopy overhead. You can take your Picnic Lunch on route as you ascend through the mystical forest for your first overnight stay at Machame Camp. Day one is great introduction to the adventure you are embarking on. Walking time ranges from 4.5hrs- 6hrs.Altitude is 3100mts. Hot water is provided to refresh yourself before Dinner, enjoy the Mountain's silence as night descends upon Machame Camp for your first night.
DAY: 3 SHIRA
After breakfast, break camp and with picnic Lunch boxes continue your ascent leaving the Lushness of the rain Forest behind you. This part of the walk cuts up along various ridges which are dotted with scrubby low land bush this eventually gives way to the more hardy Alpine Flora and Fauna of the open plateau. The walk will take you 5hrs - 6.5hrs including your picnic lunch, the views are stunning as you begin to gain altitude. On one side you have the soft outline of Kilimanjaro towering over you and off in the distance stands Mt Meru. Dinner and Overnight at Shira Camp, which is 3840mts.
DAY:4 BARANCO
After breakfast, begin a gradual climb cutting your way through the low Alpine bush. Bird watching on these open slopes can be rewarding with several different type of birds of prey scouring the scrub for small mammals. The scenery will change to rusty Red moraine fields as you continue on toward Lava tower, finally descend to Baranco Camp. Altitude here is 3900mts Lunch will be taken on route. This is a good day for acclimatization as you reach a higher altitude than that of Baranco. Dinner & overnight at Baranco Camp. This day will take 5 - 6 hrs.
DAY:5 BARAFU
After breakfast, with your picnic Lunch boxes proceed to skirt around the south side of the mountain. Begin to climb through the Alpine desert and moraine fields. Barafu Camp is reached in 4.5hrs- 6hrs Altitude here is (4600m). Relax and soak up the vistas below you, a light dinner will be served. Rest and try and get some sleep, you will be woken at 12:30am for your final challenge.
DAY:6 SUMMIT - MWEKA
After breakfast start your ascent to the highest peak in Africa (Uhuru Peak) this stands at (5895m). Have your camera's ready for when the sun winks a sleepy eye at you. After you've done the victory dance on the summit and celebrated with a complimentary bottle of Champagne, with your guide take a close look at the ice formations of the Glaciers and in your own time reflect on this amazing achievement. Start the descent to Barafu Camp for breakfast, then proceed down toward Mweka Camp cutting through lowland grasses and scrub. Break for Picnic Lunch and refreshments the walking time for this day is around 8hrs - 10hrs.(including summit ascent) After leaving Barafu the walking flattens out and follows tracks onto Mweka Camp. Dinner & Overnight at which is 3340 mts.
DAY:7 MWEKA GATE - ARUSHA
After breakfast, with your picnic lunch boxes, proceed back down into the forest, a beautiful walk again offering good bird watching opportunities, there are some good view points on route to the valley below. Continue down to the Gate. Here you will meet one of our vehicle, and you will be taken back to your Hotel
DAY:8
Transfer to the Airport for your return flight, or proceed with the safari with us

- International Airfare (unless explicitly stated).
- Medical Equipment which can be rented well in advance for the following costs: $250/group for hyperbaric chamber, $210/group for an emergency Oxygen cylinder and $140/group for a stretcher. Please note these prices include a porter to carry the equipment.
- Portable toilets: If you do not want to use public toilets which some of climbers have been complaining about being dirty, then add $110/person (or $180/group) for a portable toilet. Kindly, let us know at the time you make a booking and not afterwards.
